URBAN PLANNING AND WOMEN
Research with a gender approach
We understand that finding specific data about nighttime urban planning with a gender approach can be challenging and some times exhausting. Because of this, NTT has been gathering information related to this topic and designing this page to display all the research visually. We hope this helps you to have a more friendly approach to the information.
All the research gathered here is related to urban design with a gender approach; some of this information is specific to the nighttime period and others are related to urban design without the time distinction. Additionally, the information is divided into four categories so you can easily see what the main topic is about.
The categories are: (1) women’s safety related to the perception of security, (2) women and cities about how women dwell in cities, (3) gender approach projects developed with a women-centred design and (4) nighttime design-specific information about urban planning in the after-dark period with a gender approach.
Finally, when you pass your mouse over the pictures, you are going to see a small description of each piece of information, the year in which was published and the type of content –article, interview, handbook, paper, mapping, research, collective data and intervention– so you can have an overview of the information before deep in the whole content.
We hope you enjoy navigating this page and find this information useful!

"To work out how women’s urban needs differ from men’s, gender differentiated data is essential. Vienna's government has gathered information in several ways. The first qualitative analysis came with a photography exhibit in the early 1990s on how women use the city, which was part of the inspiration behind setting up a City Women’s Office."
